Why We Built the Home Health Score

Homeownership lacked what healthcare has: continuity and preventive care. Here’s why HomeDaddy built the Home Health Score for Columbus homeowners.

It started with a question nobody had a good answer to

By now you know what a Home Health Score is and what it can do. This is the part where we tell you where it came from — because a number is only as trustworthy as the people behind it.

That was the question we couldn’t shake: why does the home — of all things — have less care infrastructure than almost anything else of value in our lives?

The model already existed. Just not for houses.

We didn’t invent preventive care. We borrowed it from the one place it works best: your health.

Healthcare figured out something powerful a long time ago. You don’t wait for a heart attack to meet a cardiologist. You have a primary care doctor who knows your history, sees you on a schedule, catches the small things, and keeps a record so the next visit builds on the last. Continuity and prevention — that’s the whole game.

Homeownership had none of it. Every repair was a cold start with a stranger. No one held the history. No one was looking ahead. So we built the missing pieces, one to one against the medical model:

  • The Annual Home Check-Up — your home’s yearly physical, by a certified third-party inspector.
  • The Home Health Score — your vital signs, in one honest number you can track over time.
  • A dedicated handyman — a primary care doctor for your house: the same person, who knows your home and is still there next year.
  • The digital home profile — the medical record: every repair, warranty, and document, kept and searchable.

The Home Health Score sits at the center because it’s the thing that makes the rest legible. Without a number, “preventive home care” is just a nice phrase. With one, it’s measurable — you can see it working.

What we refused to compromise on

A few decisions came straight out of that founding frustration, and we won’t bend on them:

  • The inspector is independent. The person who scores your home doesn’t profit from the repairs. The number is honest because nobody scoring it is selling to it.
  • Your handyman is a real employee. W-2, background-checked, insured — not a rotating cast of gig workers. Continuity was the point; we weren’t going to fake it.
  • Your data is yours. The record we build stays yours, even if you ever leave. A medical record you don’t own isn’t really a record.

We’re a Columbus company, building this for Columbus homes first. The winters that punish furnaces, the storms that age roofs, the older housing stock across the metro — those are the conditions we built the score to watch.
